The evangelical movement in the U.S. is waking up to the need for engagement in matters of justice and compassion. For decades we stayed away from what had become known as “liberal causes,” to focus on preaching the gospel and reaching the nations. Those priorities were right, but abandoning mercy ministry and justice advocacy altogether was not right.

Listen to this impassioned plea from a young preacher and professor (Dr. Jarvis Williams of Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY) to recover the full Biblical Gospel which includes both vertical and horizontal reconciliation.

Dr. Doug Sweeney (History Professor at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, my alma mater) provides a helpful overview of the historical situation related to justice and race in the U.S.

And Dr. Peter Cha (also from TEDS, professor of practical theology) shares helpful ideas and inspiring examples of God at work in the Chicago area through prayerful engagement in the community.
