“Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.’” Mark 1:14-15
What is repentance?
Apparently it’s an important concept to Jesus since he built it into his basic presentation of the gospel. And so did Peter.
“Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, ‘Brothers, what shall we do?’ And Peter said to them, ‘Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.'” Acts 2:37-38
To repent simply means to turn around. It means to recognize you were going the wrong way and need to make a 180 degree turn to go the opposite way. It is to agree with God that living for yourself is wrong and you need to live for Him.
