Prayer Ministry

The Prayer Team provides resources and opportunities for the Oakwood family to grow in the practice of praying in individual family units and corporately.

Prayer demonstrates our humble dependence upon God and is one of the greatest joys of the Christian life!  Jesus promises His followers, “Until now you have not asked for anything in my name.  Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.”

John 16:24

If you have a prayer request you’d like to submit online, please use the form you see here.

Do you want someone to pray for a specific need in your life? Do you want to publicly thank the Lord for all He has done for you? Do you need a quiet place to pray? All of these things can be done in the Worship Center by the Prayer Board. We have prayer warriors who bring to the Father specific requests that are left on the Prayer Board each week. Our Worship Center is also open to our congregants Monday – Thursday, 10am – 2pm, if you need a place to have a quiet prayer time. Not sure who to pray for? There are prayer prompts provided!

Prayer can be defined as “personal communication with God.”  If this is true, why do so many of us not experience this type of close-knit connection with God?  As a gospel-centered church, we believe that our sin stands in the way of us having a personal relationship with God.  But the good news of the gospel is that Jesus’ death on the cross has paid the price for our sin, permanently removing this greatest obstacle to our relationship with our Creator.  Those who place their faith in Christ now receive the awesome privilege of full and direct access to the throne of God at any time.  Hebrews 4:16 invites us to “approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

Oakwood’s prayer ministry strives to come alongside the believer to encourage both personal and community prayer in the following ways:

  • Suggestions for prayer called Prayer Focus for This Week are published in weekly communications to the church body. These can be used for individual prayer or within the context of our Community Groups.
  • Prayer requests can be submitted to church leadership through a Prayer Request Card at the Prayer Board which is displayed in the worship center.
  • Prayer requests can be submitted to the entire church body through an email Prayer Chain.
  • Corporate prayer gatherings known as Praise and Prayer Events encourage prayer as a community.
  • Prayer Endeavors provide necessary prayer support for Oakwood outreach trips.
