11. Redeemer – Ruth 1:1-18 – March 17, 2019
In the dark days of the judges there is a bright story of hope. Ruth was a Moabite widow – an outsider who was profoundly vulnerable – found hope and healing in a kinsman-Redeemer. Ruth illustrates seven transformations Jesus, The True Redeemer, accomplishes for us.

12. King – 1 Samuel 8 – March 24, 2019
Israel reached another crossroads when their great prophet and leader, Samuel, grew old. Instead of trusting God to lead and provide for them, they rejected His authority as King over them and demanded a king to be like the nations around them. All people have rebelled against God’s authority and suffer the consequences, as Israel did with their kings. But God is faithful even when we fail – which is why He sent Jesus to redeem us and which is why Jesus is coming back soon to restore all things! In the story of 1 Samuel 8 we see the pattern of salvation history – 1) Creation; 2) Fall; 3) Redemption; 4) Restoration – as a pattern to give hope and direction to our lives under the authority of King Jesus!

13. Throne – 2 Samuel 7 – March 31, 2019
In His first major covenant God made an unconditional promise to bless the world through a descendant of Abraham. In His covenant with Moses God made a conditional promise to bless those who obey His law and curse those who do not. Here in the third major covenant God makes another unconditional promise – this time to David – to build a house for him that will last forever. God’s promises give us confidence. Here we see three wonderful promises – of a family, a temple and a kingdom – all of which were fulfilled in Jesus and therefore apply to us in Him!

15. Temple – 1 Kings 8 – April 14, 2019
Solomon’s Temple represented the presence and blessing of God. What a landmark moment when the glory of the LORD filled the Most Holy Place! Solomon’s prayer of dedication shows us four principles for pursuing God’s blessing in our lives through 1) God-Glorifying, 2) Faith-Filled, 3) Whole-Hearted and 4) Obedience-Oriented Prayer. The most remarkable truth is that in Christ WE are the temple of the Holy Spirit (Eph. 2:20-21)!

16. Worship – 1 Kings 18 – April 21, 2019
When the nation of Israel had spiraled into the most flagrant worship of idols God sent the prophet Elijah to get their attention. Through one of the most dramatic contests in history the LORD proved His total supremacy over the Canaanites’ primary gods. Idols deceive, but God speaks the truth. Idols disappoint and lead to destruction but God saves us and satisfies our hearts. Jesus is the full revelation of God’s truth, the culmination of His saving work and the ultimate satisfaction for our souls!

After the victory and glory of the nation under King David, the kings of Israel led them into increasing sin and idolatry. 18. Righteousness – 2 Kings 22 – May 12, 2019
Josiah was the last good king of Judah. When he found the scroll of God’s Law, for the first time in his life he saw the truth of God’s righteousness and his own sinfulness. This sparked a nationwide reformation, just as God’s Word did with Martin Luther in 1517. To live in and lead others to righteousness we must study and share God’s Word!

19. Joy – Nehemiah 8 – May 19, 2019
Having come back to the promised land, the people of Israel gathered as one under the leadership of Nehemiah the governor and Ezra the scribe. They listened to the reading and teaching of God’s Word (Deuteronomy, the Book of the Law) and show us how an encounter with God through His Word produces joy. They studied God’s word in community, humbly, diligently, obediently and gratefully. That is the pathway to joy-filled Bible reading!
