9. True Spirituality

The Jewish people appeared to be very spiritual, very religious. They were observing the sabbath and all the annual festivals, they were presenting animal sacrifices and saying their prayers. But God was disgusted with their fake spirituality and exposed it as such in Isaiah 58. God is not impressed by accurate theology from our lips if our lives are filled with sin and injustice. This chapter confronts our hypocrisy and calls us to true spirituality that seeks justice, shows compassion and expresses sincere devotion. Then God promises to reveal our righteous character, reconcile us with Him, renew our hearts and fill us with rejoicing in Him.
