As we finish our series on the character of Jesus, let’s look back briefly on what we’ve covered.
Discipleship, very simply, is becoming like Jesus. We seek to become like Him in His character and calling. We have been looking at the 13 perfections of Jesus and seeing how the gospel propels us from our sin toward His virtue. As we grow in Christ-like character, it always moves us into ministry with people. Character x calling = impact. The more we grow in our holiness and love the more our impact is multiplied by our ministry focus and effectiveness.
In the fall we spent 13 weeks discussing calling. We used the GPS framework to guide us into our masterpiece mission (Eph. 2:10). What are your GIFTS? What are you PASSIONATE about? What is your STORY in terms of both brokenness and blessing?
Oakwood has been a relational church, well connected in Community Groups since we were planted in 1983. In addition, Oakwood is a disciple-making church. In 2020 we began to develop Discipleship Groups, encouraged 2-4 men or 2-4 women to meet regularly to grow in faith and obedience together. Here is a summary of the Discipleship Foundations that have emerged from our lessons learned so far. Read or listen to the bigger vision for D-Groups here.
How has the Lord been challenging you to grow in your character and calling? If you’re not in a C Group or D Group we encourage you to join or start one soon! Discipleship is not a spectator sport, it is an active endeavor. And it is not an individual activity, but a team sport! Get connected and growing this week!
