1. Love

As we begin the season of Advent we start a new series on the character of Christ. For the next thirteen weeks we will study one of the thirteen perfections of Jesus – this Sunday focusing on love. The first chapter of John’s gospel introduces Jesus as the eternal Word of God, “through whom all things were made.” The divine Son of God showed the full extent of His love by 1) coming; 2) serving and 3) sacrificing. Each week as we look up on an expression of Jesus’ character, we will also look down at ourselves and how far we fall short of that perfection. Then we will see how the gospel bridges that gap, helping us move (in this case) from our indifference to the needs of others to lovingly serve and sacrifice for them, as Jesus has done for us!
