5. Waves of Grace Towards a Repentant Heart

King David is a monumental figure in the Old Testament and history of Israel. He is the one who was promised to have an heir who would have an eternal throne (fulfilled in Jesus). But this hero of Israel has a story that is filled with moments of profound godliness offset with episodes of deep, dark, humiliating sin. Psalm 51 captures David’s confession and repentant heart after his adultery with Bathsheba and subsequent murder of her husband Uriah. When confronted by the prophet, David confesses his guilt and pens one of the most profound expressions of repentance in all of Scripture. His psalm recounts his own sickness and wickedness while at the same time clinging to the robe of God’s even more powerful grace.
