Most people think they are relatively good. The key word there, of course, is “relatively.” Compared to other people we know, especially compared to some of the villains of history, most of us would stand up to scrutiny pretty well. The question is: how does GOD see us? How will we stand up to HIS scrutiny?
This is a fantastic summary from Living Waters, the evangelistic ministry of Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron. They have produced several excellent and insightful films (all available on their website) and a central theme in many of them is the revealing power of God’s Law.
Have you ever told a lie?
Have you ever stolen something, no matter how small?
Have you ever used God’s name as a swear?
Have you ever looked at someone with lust?
“If you’ve been honest, then by our own admission you are a liar, thief, blasphemer and adulterer at heart. (And that is just four of the ten commandments!) When you stand before God to answer for everything you’ve ever done, said or thought, what do you think the verdict will be? Innocent or guilty?”
